African swine fever (ASF) was first detected in June 2025 in a wild boar in the Olpe district. The affected area has since expanded and now includes parts of the Hochsauerland district.
The entire city of Winterberg is currently located within protection zones established to combat African swine fever (Restricted Zone 1, Restricted Zone 2, or Monitoring Zone).
Special regulations apply in these areas, which are also important for visitors to the region.
IMPORTANT: African swine fever (ASF) poses absolutely no danger to humans. It cannot be transmitted to humans or other animals (e.g., dogs, cats, horses) .
